Observe. Understand. Stay Silent.

Notice the pattern before you name it

Night Thoughts is a psychology publication for adults. We report what the research actually supports, mark clearly where the evidence stops, and leave the judgement to you.

From the lab

Shorter observations are posted on our Facebook page, and the ideas that survive contact with the research end up here as full articles with their sources attached.

We do not embed social feeds on this site. Embeds load third-party tracking on every visit, slow the page for everyone, and we would rather not make that trade on your behalf.

Night Thoughts on Facebook

How a post becomes an article

  1. An observation that keeps recurring
  2. A search for what has actually been studied
  3. Sources read, limitations recorded
  4. Published with the evidence attached

How to read us

Sources you can check

We prefer meta-analyses, randomised trials and peer-reviewed primary research, and we link them so you can go and read the original.

Limitations in the open

If a study is cross-sectional, we say it cannot show cause. If a sample was two hundred students in one country, we say that too.

Education, not diagnosis

We do not diagnose anyone, and we do not teach readers to diagnose the people in their lives. That line is deliberate.

Night Notes

An occasional letter with what we have been reading and what did not survive checking. No schedule we cannot keep, and nothing sold to you.

Your email is stored so we can write to you. Nothing else.
