Night Thoughts is general education. It is not therapy, diagnosis, medical advice, emergency help, or a professional relationship of any kind.
What this site is
Articles here describe patterns that psychological research has studied, and explain what the evidence does and does not support. They are written for a general adult audience.
What this site is not
- Not a diagnosis. Nothing here can tell you what condition you or anyone else has. Diagnosis requires a qualified professional who can assess an individual directly.
- Not therapy. Reading is not treatment, and no article can respond to your particular circumstances.
- Not medical advice. Nothing here should be used to start, stop or change any treatment or medication.
- Not emergency support. This site cannot help in a crisis and is not monitored for urgent messages.
- Not a professional relationship. Reading this site does not create a clinical or advisory relationship with anyone.
About other people
Several articles discuss behaviour that can be harmful. They are written to help you understand a pattern and decide what to do about your own situation. They are not written to help you label another person, and applying clinical terms to someone based on an article is not something we support or intend.
If you need help
If you are struggling with your mental health, please speak to a doctor or a qualified mental health professional in your own country. They can assess your actual situation, which no article can do.
If you are in immediate danger, or you are thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency services or a crisis service where you live. We do not list specific numbers here because services differ by country and giving you the wrong one could cost time you do not have. Your doctor, or a search for crisis support in your own country, will give you the correct service.
Accuracy and limits
We work from peer-reviewed research and state its limitations, but psychological evidence changes, individual circumstances vary enormously, and no general article can account for yours. Where we are uncertain, we say so. Where the research is thin, we say that too.
See our Editorial Policy for how sources are selected and how corrections are handled.
