Night Thoughts is a psychology publication for adults who want to notice patterns in human behaviour, understand them responsibly, and protect their boundaries calmly.

The idea

A great deal of writing about psychology online does one of two things. It flatters the reader by handing them a label for somebody else, or it reassures them with advice that sounds settled and is not.

This publication tries to do something narrower and, we think, more useful: describe what is actually known about a pattern, mark clearly where the evidence stops, and leave the reader better equipped to decide something for themselves.

The line we work to is simple. Help readers notice hidden patterns, understand them responsibly, and protect their boundaries calmly.

What we cover

Eight areas, and we would rather go deep in a few than shallow across all of them:

A topic area only becomes visible on this site once it holds enough substantial work to be worth your time. Empty sections are not displayed.

How we work

Every article starts from a reader’s actual question, not a keyword. Claims are traced to peer-reviewed sources, reported with their design and sample, and published alongside the limitations the study authors themselves state. Where a popular claim turns out to be unsupported, we say so rather than repeat it.

Articles are produced with AI assistance under human editorial direction. We consider that worth stating openly rather than leaving you to guess. Nothing on this site invents a fact, a source, a credential or an experience. The full method, including how corrections are handled, is set out in our Editorial Policy.

What we are not

Night Thoughts is educational writing. It is not therapy, diagnosis, medical advice or crisis support, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional who can assess your actual circumstances.

We also do not diagnose people, and we do not teach readers to diagnose the people in their lives. That distinction runs through the writing and is explained in our Psychology Disclaimer.

Accountability

Night Thoughts is published and operated by Night Thoughts. Editorial responsibility for everything on this site rests with the publisher.

We do not claim clinical qualifications, and you will not find any asserted anywhere on this site. What we claim is narrower: that the research is read before it is cited, that limitations are reported rather than hidden, and that mistakes are corrected in public.

We have no commercial relationship with any therapy provider, app, course or training programme discussed here, and no sponsored or affiliate content.
