Privacy Policy

This describes exactly what Night Thoughts collects, why, and how long we keep it. It reflects the tools actually running on this site, not a generic template.

Last updated 11 August 2026. This is a working draft pending legal review, and the retention periods marked below are not yet finalised.

Who we are

Night Thoughts operates this website at nightthoughts.space. For any privacy question, or to ask us to delete your data, write to nightthoughs.lab@gmail.com.

What we collect, and only when you choose

If you use the contact form

We collect the name, email address, subject and message you type. These are stored in this website database and a copy is emailed to us so we can reply. We use them to answer you and for nothing else. We do not add you to any mailing list from this form.

If you subscribe to Night Notes

We collect your email address, your first name if you choose to give it, and a record that you ticked the consent box. These are stored in this website database.

Being direct about what this is: we store subscriber details ourselves and we are not connected to any email marketing platform. There is no automated sequence, no tracking of whether you open anything, and no profiling. If we ever move to a mailing platform, we will tell subscribers before we do it.

You can unsubscribe or ask for deletion at any time by writing to us, and we will act on it.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses a consent banner. Analytics do not run until you accept them, and nothing but strictly necessary cookies is set beforehand. If you accept, Google Analytics collects usage data such as pages viewed and approximate location. You can withdraw consent at any time through the cookie settings link, and the analytics stop.

We do not use advertising cookies, we run no advertising pixel, and there is no Meta or Google Ads tracking on this site.

Things that happen automatically

Our host keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. A caching layer runs to make pages load faster. Neither is used to identify or profile you.

What we deliberately do not do

  • We do not sell or rent your data. Ever.
  • We do not share subscriber lists with anyone.
  • We do not run advertising or affiliate tracking.
  • We do not embed social media feeds, which would load third-party tracking on every visit.
  • We do not ask for, and do not want, health information. Please do not send it.

Who can see your data

Form entries are visible only to authorised administrators of this website. Our hosting provider necessarily processes data to run the site, and our email delivery service processes the notification emails we send ourselves. Google processes analytics data if, and only if, you have consented.

How long we keep it

Pending confirmation. Contact messages are kept while the correspondence is useful and then deleted. Subscriber details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion. Precise retention periods are being finalised and will be stated here rather than left vague.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to nightthoughs.lab@gmail.com and we will respond.

Depending on where you live you may also have a right to complain to a data protection authority. The specific authority depends on our operating jurisdiction, which will be named here once confirmed.

Children

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and, where the change affects subscribers, tell them directly.

Note for review. This policy accurately describes the tools configured on this site today. Two items are outstanding: the operating jurisdiction and the exact retention periods. It should be reviewed by someone qualified in the relevant jurisdiction before launch. Installing a plugin does not make a site compliant, and we do not claim that it does.
